Welcome to the Home of Baskerville Kennels

Kiara Adams is a 19 year old, Dog Musher who is Owner,Manager,Trainer of this competitive racing kennel.

Baskerville Kennels is located in the Yukon Territory near the capital city of Whitehorse, Canada.  A scenic  1/ 2 hour drive south along the Klondike Highway brings you to the heart of the Hamlet of Mount Lorne.  Some would say this is the best place in the world to be a dog musher or a mushing dog. Trails abound with waited adventure right from the dog yard. Snow generally arrives mid to late October and will still be on the trails in early April.  In the Summer the trails are transformed into Hiking, Biking and Horse back riding trails. A picture of Mount Lorne can be seen on the photo page.

The Big Race The Yukon Quest 2007, updated Feb 6th 2007

Training for the 2006/2007 season has begun and lots of snow has come early and this year has stayed.  Last year  warm temperatures made training near impossible at home until late in the season.  We are officially entered in the 2007, 1000 mile Yukon Quest to begin on February 10th 2007.  The whole kennel and my support team of family, friends, handlers and my sponsors (see below with out this sponsor support the dream would not be possible) are all very excited. After last years disappointment of having to be pulled out of the race because of a huge storm that forced the evacuation of several teams from the Yukon Quest by a military helicopter. I had a diffucult time deciding if I should take another attempt at doing the race again.  I was to go to school this year and move on to my adult life and prusue a carreer as a Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer. I trained for the race all year unsure what to do, enter or not, yes, no, yes, no all season until early December ?  The fact I was having such a hard time deciding eventually made it clear I must do it and the support from other mushers help a great deal.  Follow your dreams and they wil fall into place and I could not live with my self 25 years from now if I did not try again. So that is our big plan for this year, go after it and get to the finish line in Faibanks, Alaska.  This year the training has gone great and we have had fun out in the mountains putting on 1600 miles since August. I have made some minor changes to equipment and overall feel well prepared to challange once again "The Toughest Dog Sled Race In The World" the"Yukon Quest"

We may also run in some smaller 100 and 200 mile races after the Quest, but I'll have to see how things go as after 1000 miles another race may be the last thing on our minds.  We may finish the year by doing some overnight fun trips into the mountains again close to home.  This will be my last year to take this challenge until career and my new life begins but rest assure if at all possible I will return to the sport of Dog Mushing down the trail in life.  Once you have been in this sport and fallen in love with the life style it is very hard to stay away from it.  To all the competitors in this years race we wish you the best and hope each and everyone of you have a great and safe race.  Kiara

" Hi I'm Crief, also known as Houdini Crief "

" Welcome to my home Oh and that's Kiara enjoying my company "

As I was saying they call me Houdini Crief because I like to find ways to escape..it's like a game and then I wander around teasing all my friends until Kiara comes back and gives me a new challenge. This keeps me busy for a while but I always win the game, it's really quite fun. She says I'm the most hansome boy in the yard....this makes my friend Moglie very jealous, but she is always saying how cuddly he is so I don't know why he cares so much... Anyway I live here with my brother Laird and my two sisters Abby and Skye. Skye's a leader and she's really smart...I'm guessing I'm not as smart but my good looks and charm make up for it.  I really like it here at Baskerville Kennels, this a new home for me and since last March I have found Kiara to be a pretty cool critter for a human that is.  She even let me speak to you first!  Now a note from Kiara:

We all hope you will be able to follow us during this next season of training and racing.  You can follow the Yukon Quest 1000 mile race race which begins Febuary 10th 2007 by going to the Yukon Quest web page.  Better yet come to the Yukon and Alaska and follow the race yourself and have a winter vacation that you will never forget.  Check out the web page for interesting facts and Bio's of all the mushers that have entered so far and in the past.   Before you hop over to the Yukon Quest Race site though, check out more intersesting things about Baskerville Kennels.  I hope you enjoy seeing what is a huge part of my life and get a sense for the love of my chosen northern sport.

Please check out the other pages of the web site.  I hope you will get a sense of the hard work and dedication it takes to be a competive dog mushing kennel.  A sport that demands dedication and hard work 365 days of the year.  Please feel free to email me or the dogs with any questions, comments or anything at all.  Kiara.

Kiara and a team of 10 dogs at the Jr. Yukon Quest in Fairbanks, Alaska 2004.

In this picture, we are just coming off of the bush trail and arriving at the Chena Lakes Check Point. The lead dog in the bright pink coat is Ginger, one of my main leaders, as well as the proud mother of my seven tthree year olds.  Her son Gerome is already a great leader and I suspect that by the end of this winter he will be exceeding her leading ability as he is a very fast learner and a natural leader.  Gerome's picture as well as the rest of the team can be seen on the dog profiles pages of the web site. The 2007 Yukon Quest team team will have 3 possibly 5 of Gingers pups included in the team, Gerome, Moglie,Rocky for sure and possibly Rubble or Sprocket
