Pictures and Memories of Baskerville Kennels you may have to scroll back and forth to see all the pictures, enjoy some memories with me.
I can't belive it's going to be the eigth winter. There are so many memories, here are a handfull of them:

During fall training, we use a cart until the fall snow arrives. We are taking a short break and Bam Bam (on the right) is taking to flying, he can't wait to get going again. Note my old Friend Rocky beside him doing his job by standing and holding the team out while they rest. Bam Bam never did figure out how to lead the team, he was amusing though.

During the 2004 Junior Yukon Quest, Kids World Sports film crew followed Baskerville Kennels and made us television stars on the BBC Kids channel

This is Rocky my old trusted leader he has past on now. He was a great leader and was a teacher to many of my leaders I have now as well as myself. I remember he used to give me a hard time once in a while, teaching me stuff because he knew I didn't know what to do. He finished the Yukon Quest twice with Bill Stewart in the Mid 1990's and went to the Iditarod with Hans Gatt and finished the race. He was a great dog with a heart made of Yukon Gold.

February 2, 2002 at the start line in Fairbanks Alaska, Junior Yukon Quest. My Junior Handler, Sarah, came with me all the way from Whitehorse to help with dog care. It was very cold on the Chena River that morning and the following day it was not much warmer.

This is Delta my special 1/8 hound dog she has run in alot of races including the Quest 300 and the Percey de Wolfe

This is me and Pebbles, she was my very first puppy she is six now and has run in almost all the races with me, she is a special dog and a leader too!

This is Ginger, me and one of the many excellant vets at the vet check for the Jr Yukon Quest in 2004.

Having fun on a training day, we headed out late in the afternnoon and ran into the clear dark skies that night at minus 35C. The Northern Lights that night were spectacular we stopped and layed in the snow on our backs to take in one of the many free events that Mother Nature serves up in the far North. A day to remember for sure.

The sun is setting at the Junior Yukon Quest 2002. Time to rest up for the night and next day well almost a nights rest, I had a start time for 4:00 in the morning. I did mange to sleep more than anyone else I think though.

This is a picture of me at my first race with Bill Stewart's dogs. I was 12 years old, the white dog in the back is Tango he now lives with the famous Hans Gatt's three time winner of the Yukon Quest. I believe he has done some of the big races with him, no fair he was only 1 year old then and he's done more big races then me!!

This is Jackson and I he is one of my best dogs. I purchased Jackson from Hans Gatt, this picture was taken by Quest Vet Melony Donofro right before the dogs and I headed out of Pelly for the last leg of my 300 mile Yukon Quest race qualifier. The last leg of the race departs from Pelly Crossing to Stepping Stone and back to Pelly Crossing.

This is Dino, he was born at Baskerville Kennels and was a surprise baby, nobody knew his mother was going to be a mum. It was a complete surprise and was the only puppy born. He has never turned out to be a good sled dog but he is a awesome Housekey. A name given to Huskies who don't cut the mustard as a real sled dog. He has got to be the friendliest dog I have ever seen, he just loves humans, I think, he thinks we are all litter mates to him. He is very cute and has a special place in our hearts and home.

It was cold during this race in Febuary 2002, it was my introduction to long distance racing and is a great race for youth wanting to learn. I had an encounter with a moose, uneventfull thank goodness. I also had a very scary episode with open water on a warm channel along the Chena River. My leaders fell into the water and I was up to my hips soaken wet saving them. Thankfully we were only a couple of miles from the finish line. All this and we still had fun and came back to the same race two years later. This winter we will be back in Fairbanks for the start of the 1000 mile Yukon Quest.

Delta, fall training, always in a rush to leave the yard and always one of the best workers each and everday she goes to work

This Cow Moose came for a visit this spring. For a Mothers Day Brunch, while we watched from the front windows

Sunset at Midnight this photo is taken just a short walk from Baskerville Kennels. From these open natural meadows trails go in many directions for miles and miles. In the summer the area is used for a golf course, two dollars buys you the fees for 18 holes. You won't find Tiger Woods playing here but you sure will enjoy the scenery and the good time playing on this unique golf course. Besides where else in the world can you play a round for two dollars?

This is a picture of my Dog Truck in the background and my Racing Sled. Ravens Edge, Steve Tufford shown here builds these great sleds. I will be using this Dog Sled during the Yukon Quest this winter. This sled handles really well and I enjoy driving it. It is really important to have a sled that fits you during long races and Steve has done a great job fitting this sled to me. Thanks Steve for your attention to details.

This is the view from our front room window, not a single manmade object can be seen except for a old minining road on the distant mountain. At night the during the winter months many times we see the Northern Lights stream across the sky from the North West all the way across to the South East. Some times I have noticed Delta looking up and watching the show. This little female never misses a thing and can be very comical to watch.

During late summer and fall training the dogs pull a Honda ATV along some of the trails close to home. This training is all about muscle and endurance, strength building. They pull the machine with out any assistance from the engine infact I hold them back a great deal with the engine compression and the brakes. When the snow comes if there is enough of the wonderful stuff, I will get the sleds out. Sometimes though it may take a few weeks before there is enough snow packed on the trails to stop the sled safely. If this transition period is long I will hook the team to a Artic Cat snowmobile. Having the machines is essential to get the required training in. It sure is nice when you can put them away and get on the sleds. My Dad puts about 1100 miles on the snow machine each winter grooming trails for me, sometimes he is out there in the dark late at night comes home cold and tired then gets up the next day goes to work in Whitehorse and starts all over again. Without help from my parents I could never do this sport to the degree that I compete in now. It is a family affair and is a lifestyle. My parents life changed greatly when I started Dog Mushing and they have been very supportive. Thanks Mom and Dad for all you do for me and for my sister who is in the University of Alberta now. She wants to be a Doctor of Psychiatry and is well on her way to achieving her goals. Just who do you think took this picture for me?...... Mom of course she rides with me in the fall to be sure the training is safe and helps out by making the Honda heavier. The dogs are so strong they can pull the machine all by themselves even if it is turned upside down. Mom is there in case I need her when I attend to the team out front.

Frost in January, I took this picture at sunrise which occurs at around 10:20 in the morning in the dead of winter. I enjoy photography, it can be very relaxing compared to my busy schedule which is most days. When I get a chance it is fun to capture special moments like this one.
