More dogs training for the 2006 Yukon Quest

ROSEBUD Age: 4 Weight: 36 lbs.

Rosebud I purchased from Champion, Hans Gatt, three time winner of the Yukon Quest.  When I bought her she was young and had no race experiance.  She proved her self to me last year during the Quest 300 race she is now a number one,  A team lead dog.  She was leading the team back into Pelly Crossing to the finish line,  if she does not make it to the starting line of the 1000 mile race this winter I will miss her greatly.  She is proof what good breeding and training can do, she is not all that friendly but boy does she know her job.  Thanks Hans for selling her to me she is a strong member in my team.  Rosie has one blue eye and one brown eye with a speck of blue in it, she is not hard to pick out from the rest of the dogs with a face like that.

GINGER Age: 7 Weight: 43 lbs.

Ginger is an awesome leader, she is the mother of seven of my two year olds that will be training for the Yukon Quest this year.  When I was sprint mushing Ginger was leading my team at the 2002 Arctic Winter Games in Iqaluit, Nunavut.  She had an average speed of 21.68 MPH leading the team to a Gold Medal!  What a day that was racing out on the sea ice.

SWELL Age: 7 Weight: 43 lbs.

Swell is a leader and works really well with Ginger out in front of the team.  Swell was born at Bill Stewarts Kennel which is where I became addicted to the sport. Thanks to Bill,  Rosemary and their son Dylan for allowing me to learn at your kennel and getting me started.  The Stewarts are no longer running dogs and I have aquired Swell and Gimlie from their kennel.  Swell can be a bit bossy to the other dogs but she has found a new home here last fall and has been working out just fine.  Swell was just a pup when I started learning at Bills kennel, I guess you could say we grew up together with the love of racing in a dog team!!!

MOGLIE Age: 2 Weight: 48 lbs

Moglie was the last born of Gingers puppies.. but he was a huge little brother. Moglie isn't the biggest anymore but he defintily has the biggest attitude. Moglie always works hard, I like to run him in the back or the middle of the team.

LINUS Age: 2 Weight: 50lbs.

Linus is one of Gingers puppies, he is a quiet dog and one of my Dads favorites in the kennel.  He is one of those dogs you dont notice much, partly because he just goes out and does his thing all on his own.  No need to pay special attention to Linus and that seems just fine with him.

ROCKY Age: 2 Weight: 47 lbs.

Rocky is another pup from Ginger.  As a yearly he was very independent and kind of the bad boy in the litter.  The brother that was always stealing all the toys,  he seemed to take great pleasure in being a pest.  He is now a very active and attractive young male,  we will have to wait and see if he can make the team this winter.

GEROME Age: 2 Weight: 48 lbs.

Gerome has inherited his mothers intelligence and natural leading ability,  he has also been the pup that was my favorite since birth. I spent the most time with him when he was growing up, this may also be why he has proven himself to me as a leader.  Unless he starts speaking english instead of canine I will never know I suppose.  He is very special to me and one of my few male lead dogs.  I have found my females make better leaders for me, but when a male dog turns out to be having leader traits they are ussually great leaders.  There just seems to be only a few great ones that come along.  Hmm... seems too me that can be said in the human population as well.
